FAQ - Babyzz

Answers to frequently asked questions about Babyzz and amber products.

What is amber?

Amber is fossilized tree resin from ancient forests. Amber is not produced from tree sap, but rather from plant resin. The hardening process of Amber is known as polymerization, which fossilizes the resin over many centuries and makes it hard and sturdy.

Where does Baltic Amber come from?

Baltic amber was made of resin that got out of broken trunks and tree branches. Drops of resin flowed from the trees to the rivers, where they hardened and turned into amber. Together with the current of the river, it reached the Baltic Sea and gathered along its banks. Poland as a Baltic country is rich in amber deposits. We value it as the most beautiful raw material for making jewelry, and above all as a wonderful natural remedy for many ailments.

How can amber jewelry help me?

Amber contains “succinic acid”, a natural painkiller and healing agent. When the amber jewelry is warmed up by the body, succinic acid will be absorbed through the skin, helping to relieve pain. Baltic amber used for centuries has been used in various ailments from teething pain (children) to arthritis and a healthy lifestyle (adults).

How Does Amber Help With Teething?

When a baby wears an amber teething necklace (amber teething bracelet/amber teething anklet) made of 100% Baltic amber, the body heat of the baby triggers the release of healing oil (Succinic Acid) into the bloodstream. Succinic Acid is thought to be responsible for most teething benefits that are provided by amber jewelry. The anti-inflammatory properties soothe red inflamed cheeks and gums and the amber’s calming properties will help calm and soothe a baby without resorting to drugs.

How Long Does It Take For The Amber To Work?

The effects from the amber jewelry can begin working within hours. However as each child is different it can take up to 1-2 weeks for others. In addition, the bigger the body and the extent of the problem, the longer it can take to see a difference. Just like taking a food supplement, you will not feel an immediate effect. Typically we ask our customers to commit to wearing it for 3 to 4 weeks.

Can My Baby Chew On The Necklace?

No – Amber jewelry is not to be chewed or eaten. We offer a wide range of sizes to ensure that the baby cannot get the necklace into his/her mouth.

Can My Baby Wear The Necklace To Bed?

We recommend that the baby only wear the amber jewelry when supervised.

Amber Teething Necklace vs Medication/Ointments

The traditional beaded amber necklaces from the Baltic region are a less intrusive remedy for the pain and side effects of teething. A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs.

What Sizes Are The Bracelets and Necklaces??

At Babyzz, one of the most common question we get on a daily basis is related to sizing of our baby and adult necklaces, bracelets and anklets. When selecting a size we have 3 main rules:

  • The necklace must be a comfortable length for your child. We advise using a piece of ribbon or string and loop it carefully around your infant’s neck to see what length fits most comfortably.
  • You should be able to insert two to three fingers between the necklace and your child’s neck.
  • The necklace should NOT be long enough for your child to bring it to his/her mouth since the amber is not meant to be chewed on!

Please Contact Us if you are not sure what to order. We are happy to discuss what is best for you and answer any questions you may have.

It is interesting to note that Amber comes in more than 300 different shades! At Babyzz we offer a large variety of Amber colors varying from lighter shades of amber (raw honey) to darker shades (cognac) and a combination of colors (Mix).

NOTE: actual colors of amber in bracelets and necklaces may differ from the color from the photo in our online store. This is due to the large variety of shades of natural amber and the monitor settings.

How Long Will My Amber Teething Necklaces Last?

Amber is good for roughly 2 years, depending on how it is cared for. It can become brittle and faded over time, especially if exposed to soaps and creams, perfumes, chlorine or heat.

Can Babyzz Amber Jewelry Be Worn For Both Boys And Girls?

Does Amber Jewelry Work For Adults?

Absolutely! Baltic amber can help other conditions too including:

  • Helps the body heal itself therefore speeding up the recovery process.
  • Boosts the immune system in assisting healing with ear, throat, stomach and respiratory infections.
  • Relieves headaches, sore neck, sore throat and chest congestion.
  • Anti-anxiety remedy that gets rid of fatigue and weariness, improves self-confidence.

Is Amber Jewelry Safe For My Child?

We recommend that all amber jewelry is used under supervision. Amber necklaces are made for wearing, not for chewing! Stretching or pulling on the necklace can fracture the beads. Amber will crack and break under too much pressure and could potentially cause a choking hazard.

We recommend the following:

  • Parents should always supervise their child when wearing the necklace or bracelet.
  • Remove the necklace or bracelet when their child is asleep or unattended. If you want you could put a bracelet on your child or wind the necklace around their ankle and safely cover with clothing.
  • Do not allow child to chew the necklace or bracelet.

Real vs Fake Amber?

There are many tests that can be performed to determine if the amber is natural or man-made. At Babyzz all of our amber is 100% certified and real! If you want to test your amber we recommend the “flotation test” To test your necklace, mix together a solution of 1 part salt to 2 parts water and place the piece of amber in this mixture. If it floats, it is true Baltic amber. If it sinks it is man-made. (some natural copals will also sink and you would need to make more scientific tests to make a determination).

How to Clean Amber?

To clean your Amber Teething Necklace, use a soft cloth dampened with clean lukewarm water (no chlorine, detergents). You should dry your Amber very carefully, lightly polish and remove any excess oil.

Can Amber Jewelry Be Worn In The Bath?

Amber can be worn in the bath however frequent wetting and drying can weaken the thread on the jewelry. Avoid wearing your necklace in the pool or hot tubs where chemicals are harmful to the amber. If the necklace needs to be washed, use warm water only, no soap.
